Critical Thinking Problem Solving Steps

A way of thinking about particular things at a particular time; it is not the accumulation of facts and knowledge or something that you can learn once and then use in that form forever, such as the nine times table you learn and use in school.

The skills that we need in order to be able to think critically are varied and include observation, analysis, interpretation, reflection, evaluation, inference, explanation, problem solving, and decision making.

When a big decision seems like it could be too much to tackle all at once, break it down, take small steps, get more information, reconsider and then make the next decision.

It helps make the decision-making process a lot easier.

The decision-making process also involves external work in which you’ll receive information from others, data or other resources.

Draw upon your knowledge and emotions to imagine what it would be like if you decided on each of the alternatives.Evaluate whether the need identified in Step 1 would be met or resolved using each option.As you go through this challenging internal process, you’ll begin to favor certain alternatives: those that seem to have a higher potential for reaching the decision.They will always seek to determine whether the ideas, arguments and findings represent the entire picture and are open to finding that they do not.Critical thinkers will identify, analyse and solve problems systematically rather than by intuition or instinct."We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." -Albert Einstein Train your brain to look at situations and problems differently, open your mind to new ideas, and use scientific reasoning on your problems.We make decisions and solve problems every day, whether we realize it or not.We can consider “facts” as basic ingredients and “information” as a supplement to the facts: intuition to bring forth the best option for that all-important decision.What’s more, this process shows, thoughtfulness and critical thinking skills – important leadership traits for professional success.Critical thinking might be described as the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking.In essence, critical thinking requires you to use your ability to reason.
