Again, as ethical considerations is a broad philosophical concept, it can apply to any situation where the person ponders the nature of right and wrong, how to recognize the difference and the meaning those conclusions carry for everyday life.

However, both the nature of nursing which focuses on caring, preventing harm and protecting dignity and the advocates role of nurses which calls for defending the rights of subjects, are sometimes incongruent with the ethics in research.

However, a proposal must state what the applicant considers to be the possible ethics implications throughout the research project lifecycle, what measures will be taken for ongoing consideration of ethics issues, what review will be required for their proposed research and how and when it will be obtained.

Risk and benefit to researchers, participants and others (eg potentially stigmatised or marginalised groups) as a result of the research and the potential impact, knowledge exchange, dissemination activity and future re-use of the data should also be considered as part of the ethical statement.

Research ethics involve requirements on daily work, the protection of dignity of subjects and the publication of the information in the research.

However, when nurses participate in research they have to cope with three value systems; society; nursing and science.

If an ethics review is required at a later stage in the project, this should be discussed and funding arrangements agreed in advance with the ESRC.

At a minimum we expect that ethics review will be undertaken prior to the stage in the project that the actual research is carried out.

Ethical considerations are those that pertain to moral values and decision-making at the individual or societal levels.

They can affect a large number of different types of communities, ranging from those involved in health care, government, business, religion and even social media.
