By the end of the course, students will have generated new material, shaped and revised draft poems, and significantly grown as writers by experimenting with various aspects of craft.An introduction to playwriting through a combination of reading assignments, writing exercises, discussions about craft and ultimately the creation of a complete one-act play.
It also displays descriptions of courses offered by the department during the last four academic years.

The final assignment will be to write an original one-act play.
Students in this class will learn how to develop, report, write, edit and revise a variety of news stories, beginning with the basics of reporting and writing the news and advancing to longer-form stories, including personality profiles, news features and trend stories, and concluding with point-of-view journalism (columns, criticism, reported essays).
There will be individual conferences with the instructor to discuss their progress and interests.
Half of class time will be spent discussing student work and half will be spent discussing syllabus readings.

Students seeking graduate credit will produce a greater quantity and higher quality of original work, will have a separate and more extensive reading list, and will be expected to participate more fully in class activities. CW 332 FORM AND THEORY OF CREATIVE WRITING (3-0-3)(F/S). An examination of literature through the eyes of a writer, focusing on craft and technique. CW 401 ADVANCED CREATIVE NONFICTION WRITING (3-0-3)(F, S, SU). Extensive revision of previous written work in creative writing courses and creation of portfolio focused on poetry.
