The research plan and format of the dissertation is determined by the student and dissertation committee.Doctoral students should consult the USF Graduate School for additional requirements for the dissertation and graduation with a doctoral degree ( ACADEMIC STANDINGTo be in good standing, doctoral students must maintain an overall average of 3.0 (B) in all courses.

The qualifying exam consists of a written grant proposal and an oral presentation/defense.

Qualifying exam: To advance to dissertation candidacy, the student completes a qualifying exam.

One example is that a faculty member is leaving the university.

You must note this reason on the form, and the department and college must approve the change.

¹ The final approved thesis/dissertation and all required forms and surveys must be submitted by the listed deadline.

Students that miss the deadline will not be approved to graduate and will need to defer to the next semester.² Students that meet the final submission deadline but do not receive approval of the ETD must complete the required revisions specified by the Office of Graduate Studies, resubmit the ETD and receive approval by the final clearance deadline.³ The final clearance deadline is not the last day to submit, but the last date by which the revised ETD must be approved by the Office of Graduate Studies.

Any student earning a C or less in two courses will be recommended for dismissal from he program.
